Jefferson - Center City, Philadelphia, PA is Hiring a Phlebotomist (Per Diem, Days) Near Philadelphia, PA

The Phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining patients’ blood specimens through venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick as appropriate for the performance of requested tests. The Phlebotomist uses appropriate equipment and complies with phlebotomy policies and procedures, including proper techniques, patient identification, biohazard precautions, and timing and fasting requirements.

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Performs phlebotomy and ensures accurate collection of requested tests from patient through venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick.
  • Maintains positive patient identification during specimen collection.
  • Communicates to nursing personnel or physician office relative or discrepant patient identification, fasting requirements or other related factors regarding collection. Communicates to Nursing when in house patients refuse blood draws. Will use Hospital resources when language barriers exist.
  • Reviews all requisitions for missing information. Follows up with facility or provider if unable to obtain all information required for test performance.
  • Checks appropriate collection, sorting and storage areas in the facilities for specimens to ensure specimens are not missed, and may transport/distribute these specimens to the laboratory as needed.
  • Monitors information in Collection List and Unreceived Specimen Report. Completes Collection List with accurate time of collection and phlebotomist code.
  • Cleans and stocks work area and assists with maintenance of supplies. Follows all safety and Laboratory Dress code policies
  • Performs other lab related duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent AND Experience: 1-3 years’ prior experience preferred. Certain laboratory locations may require phlebotomy training that includes a minimum of 100 hours rotation within an inpatient hospital setting/physician office. (and usually 150 successful sticks). Phlebotomy certification preferred.

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson’s clinical entities or at the University.
